How the Hybrid System Works
Just like a typical off grid system, you draw the power from the sun during the day and the excess power you produce will charge your battery. But like a grid-connected system, any excess power produced during the day (after your home uses what it uses and the batteries are full) will be sent back to the grid at the rate of your current feed-in-tariff (depending on your location).
The house will then draw power from the battery as it is continually charged during the day. When the sun goes down (or you get a black or brown out), the house will continue to draw power from the battery and this is where the benefit of a grid-connected system comes in. Obviously, your battery isn’t going to stay charged forever.
So, if your house uses more electricity than the amount that your battery currently holds, your house will begin to draw electricity from the grid until your system begins to produce electricity again. This means you will constantly have a reliable supply of electricity as well as cut down your consumer costs.
